I have just retuned from a trip to Europe and visited the Euroshop trade fair in Germany (The largest retail store equipment exhibition) and it is very interesting to have observed that South Africa is no longer behind from a retail design, concept and shopfitting point of view!
Algoran are proud to announce that we were presented with an award for our Green By Design Stand!
We are also for the first time co-hosting a stand at Decorex at the Sandton convention centre in August 2007 with the Design magazine and the theme is Green by Design. We have invited various product suppliers that are manufacturing recycled raw materials. We hope that in conjunction with Decorex we will be able to grow this platform to full exhibition halls in the future. Any one interested please contact David Abrahamse of Algoran (082) 774 1385 or Cameron Bramley of the Design magazine (082) 882 8124
Algoran also in partnership with a local supplier and have introduced a hand cleaning dispenser outside retailers for their customers before using shopping trolleys. I read somewhere recently that shopping trolleys have on average more germs than your household toilet.
Strategic giving can build up a company’s success, not just its image! Corporate social responsibility, which is also a green issue, can be a confusing term. It should have three facets. The first is obeying the letter and the spirit of the law – being ethical, transparent and fair, having integrity. A second aspect is mitigating or remedying any operational harm that companies do, particularly an environmental harm.

Even Woolworths like Wal-Mart sells organic cotton these days, but you definitely don’t have to be a retailing behemoth to take your business in a green or organic direction. In fact small retailers have an advantage when it comes to reaching customers who care about the cause as well as the products. It’s a highly underrated opportunity for retailers. Organic and green products are growing exponentially wordwide and South Africa is just staring to catch on.

A New Economic Revolution:
There have been 3 major economic revolutions in human history on our planet. Being the agricultural, industrial and the information technology. We have recently entered into a new one that is going to have major implications as we evolve and innovate exponentially. I call it the experiential revolution, it’s been referred to as the experience economy (The Experience Economy by Pine and Gilmore), the new economy and also the knowledge or design economy. Whatever you call it! It’s been driven by progress and innovations. We all need more! Design! from product, packaging to interior design and branding.
