The competition tribunal yesterday approved the R369 million takeover of mass market health and beauty chain Discom by Edgars Consolidated Stores (Edcon).
In June Edcon said it was buying Discom from New Clicks to give its lower-market Jet brand greater critical mass, but said it would keep the Discom brand. This is Edcon’s first completed acquisition since Bain Capital bought the clothing retailer for R25 billion earlier in the year. – Tom Robbins, Cape Town
