The new Smart Basket is an innovation in the South African shopping experience.

The Smart Basket incorporates a telescopic handle and two wheels that aid mobility and use inside a shop. This basket has been ergonomically designed for the user, with an easy weight rolling system. The Smart Basket can be either carried like a regular basket or alternatively, the handle can be pulled out and the consumer can experience the comfort of the rolling basket.

Retailers

International research shows that this innovative rolling basket has a real impact on shoppers because they spend more time in store, and the average ticket price per shopper is higher than those with regular basket purchases. In-store trials, consisting of 600 in-store interviews done by ACNielsen, reveal that on average consumers using the Smart Basket purchase more articles, spend more and stay longer in store.

The interviews conducted by ACNielsen also sought to evaluate the impact on shoppers:

A Commodity of use

B Mobility in the store

C Stability

D Capacity

E Fitting with the consumer height

• better than a std basket

• equal compared to std basket

• worse than a std basket

Advertisers

This awesome opportunity allows advertisers to access the lucrative mass of traffic through retail outlets and reach consumers as they are about to make a purchasing decision. In conjunction with Smart Cart’s trolley advertising, this is the only in-store medium that communicates with the shopper for the entire duration of their shopping experience.

Consumers

The telescopic handle makes shopping with a basket so much more pleasant as the shopper does not have to bear the weight of a heavy basket anymore – the smooth rolling wheels take the burden off. The basket is also useful in other areas such as in the home, workshop and office.
