Johannesburg – Retail sales growth accelerated to an annual 15.9 percent last month, an industry survey showed yesterday.

Retail sales growth accelerated from 15.5 percent in May, according to the Johannesburg-based Retailer Liaison Committee.

The data are not adjusted for inflation or for differences in the number of trading days.

The industry group collates data supplied by chains owned by companies including Edgars Consolidated Stores, JD Group, Woolworths Holdings and Shoprite Holdings.

Its figures do not usually tally with official retail sales data from the statistics agency, which surveys more firms and uses a different methodology. -Bloomberg
